Connaught Hotel Refurbishment

Project Location Carlos Place, Mayfair, London
Contract Value / Size £64 million

While at Barrett Haskins Design Ltd, Rob Colley was appointed to design and prepare a complete tender package for the 6000 sqft kitchens at the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair. Working with Michelin 2 star chef Hélène Darroze and her team, Rob developed layouts and specification to satisfy all parties while respecting the Grade II listed structure.

Following this his role was extended to provide a constant on site presence to deal with any contractor queries, resolve detailing issues and act on the clients behalf in terms of workmanship control for the whole refurbishment project including all bedrooms & suites, bars, restaurants and public core areas. A new restaurant extension was also sympathetically crafted into one of the existing public lounges.

The 2 year project (2007-2008) for the refurbishment and restoration of this Grade II listed 150 year old hotel comprised a complete strip back to structure including services. The structure was then adapted and altered to suit the requirements of a modern hotel and then, working with Oliver Laws interior design, carefully clad and fitted out to a very high specification incorporating modern technology requirements while maintaining the grace and elegant style of this famous hotel.
