While at Barrett Haskins Designs, Rob Ranson set out proposals for the redevelopment of the site known as The Kent Ophthalmic and Aural Hospital, Church Street, Maidstone. The proposals included the renovation, conversion and extension to a Grade II Listed Building and a number of locally listed buildings as well as the construction of five new buildings of 2, 3, 4 and 5 storeys to accommodate a range of contemporary residential apartments.
These proposals provide a sustainable use to safeguard the long-term survival of retained listed buildings and have been carefully devised to maximise development potential and regeneration of this brown field site, yet respect the quality and character of the Conservation Area.
This project now completed by Higgins Homes was highly commended in the 'Best Apartment in Kent' category in the 2011 UK Property Awards as well as 'Best New Starter Home Award' in the 2010 Evening Standard new Homes Awards
