Offset Architects were appointed to gain planning approval to replace the existing Pre-School facility at Culverstone Green Primary School. With a 'Sure Start' funding application critical to the whole process, Offset Architects had to effectively develop a scheme which would meet the needs of the client whilst meeting the anticipated budget. The solution provides a safe and fun environment for children aged between 2 and 5 years old with its prominent position in the grounds carefully introducing them into the structured school environment.
The fun and contemporary scheme uses the same footprint as the existing poor quality pre-fabricated building, but is designed with a low pitch metal roof to allow for natural light to filter into the spaces whilst creating large picture bay windows to overlook the adjacent countryside. An attached secondary class room was also designed to create valuable space for the school itself whilst sharing services to create more efficiency in the design and planning of the proposals. A sustainable air source heat pump was incorporated to provide on-site renewable energy to space heat the building.
The exceptional service provided by Offset Architects along with the contractors Benning Brothers and other consultants was recognized by being shortlisted for the 'Best Education Development' in the LABC Building Excellence Awards.
